About

I build the invisible systems that make things feel extraordinary.

Most people who claim "polymath" or "multidisciplinary" are generalists. They know a little about many things. That is CV decoration, not actual capability.

Real range is different.

Range is depth in incommensurable disciplines, held simultaneously, until the patterns from one start showing up as anomalies in another. The specialist in either field cannot see those anomalies. That is when the seeing starts.

A room with bad acoustics has the same shape as a brand with bad positioning. Same pathology, different costume. Almost nobody is trained to see the architecture; everyone is trained to fix the costume. So the costumes get prettier and the architecture rots.

That is where I work.

Underneath anything exceptional are systems most people never see: design decisions, technical constraints, capital structures, operational rhythms, people, incentives, taste, timing, and thousands of small choices that either compound or corrode.

The industries change. The obsession does not.

  • Make the thing better.
  • Make the system stronger.
  • Make the experience unforgettable.
  • Make the business harder to copy.
  • Make the promise survive contact with reality.

That is how I see the world.

Building

A design consultancy at scale
AKA Acoustics. 800+ projects. Expanding product distribution and international delivery across New Zealand and Asia.
A private capital vehicle
Tuyo Capital. Backing operating businesses with technical depth and underexposed leverage.
An immersive venue concept
Early-stage. The next generation of public space.
A composite wall product
ProFit Industries. Started because the industry demanded safer, cheaper and higher-performance alternatives that didn't exist.
A weekly publication
On building, taste, capital, and what most categories pretend not to see.

Thinking about

The asymmetric value of invisible work
Taste, operating discipline, trust, brand gravity - the layers that decide everything and bill for almost none of it.
Why most companies confuse “motion” with “operating rhythm”
They track activity, meetings, messages, dashboards, and deliverables. Then wonder why nothing compounds.
What luxury developers still misunderstand about experience
Most sell finishes. Few understand silence, arrival, proportion, friction, memory, and the feeling of being inside a decision made properly.
Whether AI makes small expert firms more powerful - or just exposes how little expertise was there
The best consultancies become terrifying. The average ones become templates with letterheads.

Worth your time

The Creative Act — Rick Rubin
A reminder that taste is not decoration. It is attention, restraint, and the willingness to keep listening after everyone else thinks the thing is finished.
The Almanack of Naval Ravikant — Eric Jorgenson
Specific knowledge, leverage, judgment, compounding, and the pursuit of freedom.
Poor Charlie's Almanack — Charlie Munger
Mental models, incentives, inversion, and not being an idiot at scale.
The Beginning of Infinity — David Deutsch
Progress, explanation, and the intellectual courage to keep expanding the possible.

Thesis

The future belongs to people who can build what others only sense is missing.

Most people know when something feels wrong. Fewer can explain why. Fewer, again, can fix it. And almost nobody can turn those fixes into a thriving, profitable business.

The world is full of these underbuilt experiences and badly designed systems. Rooms that don't perform. Brands that don't land. Companies that look right on paper, but break the moment they meet reality. Whole categories built by people who have never had to live inside the consequences of what they made.

They share the same fundamental flaw: the people responsible for them often do not understand how technical performance, emotional impact, commercial discipline, and operational execution fit together.

I do.

I don't see things for what they are. I see things for what they could be.

That is my edge.

Writing

The Art and Engineering of Creation

I write because building across multiple industries reveals patterns that most people never see. The same principles of design, commitment, and taste repeat everywhere - in acoustics, in media, in venture capital. This is where I explore what those principles are and how they work.
